Founder of Break the Tape Leadership | Strategist | Executive Leadership Coach
Cohort Location(s):Portland, OR | Seattle, WA
Kelly Tweeddale’s career has been dedicated to leading high performance organizations throughout North America with one focal point: connecting people and businesses through creativity. She is recognized for forging paths of notable growth through strategy, action, and innovation.
She developed Break the Tape Leadership to connect her extensive network to leaders and organizations as they position to win in the "next normal." In her own words, those competencies include:
Design Thinking and Approaches to Address Complex Social Challenges – I help clients use Design Thinking to retool their teams and businesses as we embarked upon an environment that requires new thinking and strategic planning. From ideation to pro-typing to testing, I have both taught and led organizations to find new solutions to both familiar and emerging challenges. I use both Ross School of Business (University of Michigan), Stanford models, and many other sources to bring the idea of collaboration and “there is no single right answer” to the table.
Managing Remote and Non-hierarchical Networks, Organizations, and Teams – As a CEO during the COVID pandemic I led the first U.S. arts organization to lose its performance venue due to the pandemic to remote, online, and innovative platforms. I helped build all-remote enterprises beginning in 2000 and chaired the board during a period of exponential growth and worked to acquire the member-based technology from single ownership to network ownership.
The Culturally Competent Leader and The Inclusive Workplace – With deep work post-George Floyd in what it means to be both inclusive and open to new possibilities, I feel an immense passion for this work. It requires humility, curiosity, and the boldness to forge ahead separating tradition from innovation and inclusion. I use the Social Change Model of Leadership to help leaders navigate and commit to culturally inclusive workplaces.
Leading Transformational Change – I have a passion for transformational change in the areas of customer growth, revenue management and strategic alignment. I help emerging leaders become the next generation of creative leaders.
Leader as Coach, Facilitator, and Storyteller – I use my marketing background to help leaders find their organization’s story, their own leadership story, and to reach their full potential. I also work with female business owners to find their strengths and use them to play big.
With a specialty designation as a Creativity & Growth Executive Coach, Tweeddale is also an alumni of the Center for Executive Coaching, Tara Mohr's "Playing Big Facilitators Training" and recipient of the Puget Sound Business Journal Women of Influence and the Greater Vancouver YWCA Women of Distinction awards,. She is passionate about making a difference and achieving results.
I believe that new ideas and approaches are part of an inclusive and equitable future. I demonstrate that in my leadership by encouraging authentic solutions that reflect the values of my clients, create momentum, and create a less boring world.
2. CreativityI believe that the future of work will require solutions that stem from divergent possibilities and I run my business that way. I convene divergent thinkers to share possibilities different from my own, make space for the unthinkable, and treat creativity as a strategy for solving problems, overcoming challenges, and imagining the future. 3. Benevolence
“I am passionate about women in business, entrepreneurial enterprises, and the not-for-profit sector. I have 30 years of experience as a CEO that includes working with collective bargaining unions, start-up collectives harnessing technology, and a background in effective communications and raising capital funds. I am at a stage of my career with fresh insights from my business coaching certification that I can help business owners move forward with their goals and growth plans.”
I use creativity in finding multiple approaches to solve problems and find tangible ways forward. I have an extensive business network in the Pacific Northwest that include community leaders, elected officials, and BiPOC mentors. I believe that a coach's role is to eventually become obsolete as the business owner finds their own talents, resilience, and metrics that define success.
As a creativity and growth coach, I focus on helping clients that are either launching new channels of their business or starting up a new business. I have 30 years in the creative sector and have headed up new enterprises that bring technology to historical business sectors including CRM software, digital streaming and intellectual property rights, and adopting emerging social and business platforms.
Using decades of experience in the creative sector, Break the Tape Leadership helps leaders unleash possibility and potential in themselves and the organizations they lead to generate meaningful and measurable momentum.
